We purchased Okinawan sweet potato slips in 2016, and have kept them going every year since. We originally bought Okinawan sweet potato slips from Baker Creek Seeds because Sarah read that they were a common staple food in a ‘blue zone’, which are regions where people routinely live longer than the average life expectancy.

We overwintered kale that we’re letting go to seed. Honey bees have discovered it on this cloudy, but warm day. Dead Nettle, Johnny Jump-Ups and Chickweed are blooming all over the garden, and a few dandelions too.

We had a nice open area where the harbor freight portable garage was, so we made some more raised beds. These garden beds are made from cedar slabs, or first cuts from the chainsaw mill. We planted well over 100 cloves of grocery store garlic last fall (October). In the last couple weeks the bottom few leaves have started to brown and some of the stalks were lying down, which is a sure sign they’re ready to harvest. This represents about 85% of the harvest with the rest still growing
