The winter garden is going well. This year we’ve planted lettuce, spinach, kale, carrots, beets, broccoli, cabbage and lots of turnips. I wish the beets and broccoli were doing better, but everything else is doing great. It’s nice how minimal the pest pressure is in fall/winter gardening. We’ve had temperatures down in the mid 20’s so far, but I don’t see any frost damage on anything. I think we will have to use the poly tunnels in January though.
We just finished fencing in the entire garden area, but I still have netting around most of the raised beds to keep chickens out. It seems that we are going to have to clip the wing feathers on some of the chickens to keep them from flying over the 5 foot tall garden fence. Leghorn chickens fly really well…for chickens.
