We’ve completed a grape trellis and added 3 new grape vines to the garden. This area is a fairly steep slope so we couldn’t put raised beds on it. We are trying to utilize the space with grapes instead…I think it will work, but time will tell. The trellis was easy to build using red cedar that was on the forest floor. A hand operated planer made it easy to shave off much of the rotting sap wood (white) and leave the rot resistant heart wood (red) for the finished posts. I set the 4 posts 8′ apart using bagged concrete to a depth of 3 feet. There are 3 horizontal lines for the grape vines to grow on using standard clothesline and turnbuckles.
