Dangerous Trees

Unfortunately; these 3 red maple trees had to be cut down. They were about 25 feet southwest of the cabin, which is the same direction as much of our prevailing winds. The center tree was half rotted out, as you can see in the photo. We’ve had some high winds this spring and taking care of this problem suddenly became much more important.
Even though we didn’t want to cut down these maple trees, they will be put to good use. They yielded six logs (9 ft)  that are big enough to mill into however many 1″ thick boards I can get. The small limbs were chipped and used in the garden for mulching our new fruit tree guilds. The remaining limbs that were too big for the chipper as well as the smaller diameter logs were cut into firewood.
