We needed a simple garden bench to sit and watch our bees and just enjoy the little orchard we planted this year. I had some 2″ thick cedar lumber that I had previously milled with an Alaskan chainsaw mill. I found a plan that we liked on
ana-white.com. The bench uses only five 2 x 4 boards…super simple truss design.

I use a 10 foot strut and a circular saw to turn chainsaw mill slabs into boards. |

The basic design without the top. |

The finished bench installed nice and close to the bee hive. The bee’s flight path is towards the camera, so sitting off to the side we get a nice view of their comings and goings. |

A close-up of the finished bench. I used multiple coats of spar urethane to protect the cedar from the elements, and it really makes the wood grain pop. |
