Restoring Brent’s Old Craftsman Tool Chest

My brother, Brent, had a Craftsman tool box from the 90’s that was in pretty bad shape. I wanted to put it back into service at our place, but it needed some work first. The drawers had quite a bit of rust, and some of the drawer glides were bent. I wanted to restore it and put it back into use.

It’s a 1990’s era Craftsman tool box that had some water damage in the form of rust and general wear and tear. The ‘Craftsman’ emblem in the upper right was missing, but everything else was intact.
Rust-Oleum Rust Dissolver was great at removing all the rust, but the spray bottle is a joke. It’s easier to apply it with a brush.
After rust removal and quite a bit of sanding we’re ready for primer on the bare metal and then painting.
Rust-Oleum Sunrise Red and Charcoal Gray were close matches to the originals.
New drawer liners keep all the tools from sliding around everytime you open or close a drawer. Harbor Freight’s 22″ wide tool box drawer liners were a fraction of the price compared to our local Lowe’s Home Improvement Store.
Finished and ready for use. I think Brent would have approved.
