Truck Repairs – A $2 Part Causing Engine To Stall

My truck has been stalling about a minute after starting if it will start at all. It’s a 1983 GMC 4×4 truck with a lot of miles on it. I narrowed it down to a fuel issue and had bought a new fuel pump. I also picked up a new fuel filter even though it was replaced a couple years ago when I rebuilt the carburetor. I tried to blow through the old fuel filter after taking it out and couldn’t…it was blocked. The small yellow check valve seen in the middle of the filter below was sticking.

A sticking check valve in the fuel filter was causing the engine to stall.
