Kitchen Cabinets Done

I finally finished the kitchen cabinets in our little cabin. They are made from 3/4″ pine from our chainsaw mill with an inexpensive 1/4″ luan backer. They were super simple to build and very inexpensive. Sarah picked out the green…her favorite color.
I used Kreg pocket screws to make the door frames as shown in this video on youtube called Making $10 Cabinet Doors. In fact the entire cabinet carcass, face frames and cabinet doors are done with Kreg pocket screws. It’s a simple and strong way to join wood without using biscuits, dowels or cutting time consuming mortise and tenon joints.

One of the issues I’ve had with air drying pine on our property has been  Sawyer Beetle Larva that usually eat their way into the edge of the pine log after I’ve cut down the tree but prior to milling it. If I don’t spot the larva ahead of time they can end up becoming part of my woodworking project…OOPS! You can see the hole that this larva (in my hand) dug through the cabinet door.
