Harvesting Ginger

We planted some store bought ginger root just to see if we could grow it ourselves. I think we planted about a half dozen small pieces of ginger this past spring. Although this is a shade loving plant we left it out in the garden which gets full sun for most of the day. The ginger did fine anyway and we are starting to harvest it as needed.
A full season of growth yields a container full of ginger root.
I pulled up a small ginger root and attached stem. I cut the stem off and washed the root. We use the ginger in some of our green smoothies as well as quite a few dinner recipes
Sarah spotted this little chrysalis on the ginger. She thinks that this is a bunch of  baby Praying Mantis.
