Description: Sold in sets of 3 cuttings, or sets of 10 cuttings. American elderberry (Sambucus canadensis) cuttings, available in 3 varieties: Bob Gordon, Ranch, and Wyldewood.

Elderberry cuttings from Maitri Homestead are harvested from disease free plants grown in our own garden. Cuttings may be kept in your refrigerator until ground is thawed, or you can start them in jars of water. Planting instructions will be provided with each order.

Elderberry can grow up to 15′ tall in fertile, well-watered soil, but can be pruned to keep the plants more compact. They grow best in full sun, but can tolerate some shade. They need lots of water the first two years to get established, but are drought-tolerant after that.

Varieties: All three of these varieties grow very well for us here in west TN.

  • Bob Gordon: Compact plants (6′ – 8′ tall) produce loads of large berries.
  • Ranch: These do the best for us here in west TN. They grow well in less fertile soil (6′ – 10′ tall) and are very hardy and tolerant to harsh conditions. Great berry producer.
  • Wyldewood: Grows 6′- 10′ tall and are vigorous producers of excellent berries.

Cutting Size: Cutting sizes will vary somewhat. The diameter will vary from 1/4″ to 1″ and length will vary from 8″ to 16″.  Each cutting will have a minimum of 2 sets of nodes for best growth success. Cuttings will be taken fresh through mid-March.
