We use our 4 wheel drive truck for hauling manure from a neighbors horse stables, picking up mulch from the local sawmill, hauling building supplies, pulling out tree stumps, and getting wood from the back of the property to the front where we currently live. We don’t really use it a lot, but when we need it…we really need it. However, it is 35 years old and it is showing it’s age lately. This year I’ve had to work on it far more than all the 4 plus years I’ve owned it put together. I have recently rebuilt the carburetor ($40), replaced most of the ignition components ($150), and replaced both front brake calipers ($45). It seems like a lot of work, but it is a vehicle that I can work on myself instead of taking it to a mechanic, and the parts are inexpensive. It is the same engine and has many similar components as my first car, a 1979 Monte Carlo, which I enjoyed tearing apart in high school.
