Winter Weather On the Homestead

We finally had our first (and hopefully last) stretch of bad weather this winter.  It started with a good shower of ice pellets, followed by sleet, followed with temperatures in the teens.  The next day brought an inch or so of real snow and single-digit temperatures.  All of which caused school closures all week for both Sarah and Ben. Here are some pictures from our little stint of cabin fever.
A little snow on the ground after the first round of snow and sleet.  The driveway was covered so we were kind of “stuck” for a few days.
Ben spent some time drawing, some time writing, reading, studying, and most of his time moaning about how there is “nothing to do”!
We let the cats in a few times because the temperatures got pretty low.  This is how Loren spent some of his time…
After a few minutes inside, one of our “outdoor” cats has remembered exactly how cushy her previous “indoor” life use to be.
We had just finished topping off the garden beds with soil and mulch. Good timing!
A Towhee snacking on some bird food Sarah put out.
We’ve had many Cardinals visiting us too.
Bandit is sharing his unfrozen water with all the chickens. The Bantams are on top of the dog house patiently waiting their turn. Bandit is patiently waiting his turn too!
